As a full time model, a time came for her to spread her wings as she turned to Singapore’s nightlife scene debuting as a DJ.
Aside from killer looks, her fresh and fun open format mixes make dance floors across Asia pulse. EDM such as commercial, bounce, mash-ups and bangers are her first love although recognizing the need to remain versatile, she can seamless transition between Top 40s, Hip Hop, and House. She hails from a family of musicians, her father a singer and her sisters, guitarist. Growing up, she was heavily influenced by 80’s bands - Guns and Roses and Led Zeppelin among many. She still incorporates elements of their high energy performances and showmanship in her sets today ! Jade Rasif is constantly looking to collaborate with DJs of different genres and is venturing into music production.
THE INTERVIEW
• Tell us about the current electronic music scene in Singapore? (what do Singaporeans generally enjoy listening to in terms of sub-genres and song selection) It's the internet age and people are exposed to a bajillion genres. Trance has a large following, hardstyle has a following, Techno has a following, bigroom has a following, drum and bass has a following, trap has a following. • Tell us about your upcoming new residency on Billboard Radio + future plans with DJ Mag. Keep on eye on our socials in the next weeks ;) Something big is coming! • Share with us one embarrassing moment + one unforgettable moment during your DJ career. Share with us some of your plans for 2018. It's weird that I don't remember much from when I'm actually DJing because I'm so caught up in the moment and I'm so full of adrenaline i can't remember much after the set. So for me, the moments I will never forget are at festivals watching other DJs and having such an appreciation for their work. I always remember Kshmr, Armin and Timmy Trumpet. It's beautiful and inspiring. I just hope one day I can make some one else feel like that about the music I play. DJs will tell you that every dj has accidentally stopped the music at one point of time, but it doesn't make it any less embarrassing when it happens! The whole club stares at you in confusion. • What inspired you to become a DJ? How did you first get involved in the industry & what do you enjoy about it. It's a long story. When I was 19 I started dating a DJ. He had tiny DDJ-SB in his room and taught me how to use it. Don't get me wrong - that relationship was terrible... but at least something good came out of it. I realised I was getting pretty good at it after a while. When I got confident enough to move out of the bedroom I approached an agency who (thankfully!) signed me • Where are the venues (clubs) that you are currently performing at? Im currently doing this interview on the way back from Vegas, next week I'll be playing in China at Face Shenzhen. After that I'll be at Coyote in Surabaya (Indonesia). • What genres do you enjoy listening to? Also, what are your favourite genres to spin as a DJ and why? I'm always listening to hip hop but my favourite genres to spin are big room / bangers / festival trap.
